The state symbols link 1918 and 1991. The flag adopted by the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic flies over the country once more today.
Symbols
Azerbaijan's flag has three horizontal stripes — blue, red and green — with a white crescent and an eight-pointed star in the centre. It was adopted by the ADR in 1918 and restored in 1991.
Each colour carries its own meaning, and the crescent and star became a recognisable sign of Azerbaijani statehood.

The state anthem, the "March of Azerbaijan", is set to music by Uzeyir Hajibeyov, the founder of Azerbaijani professional music. The emblem unites the star, the flame and the national colours.
